The Hardest Goodbyes

Throughout the week, we were very fortunate to have touched the lives of many different people on the other side of the world. However, as it is time for us to return to our own lives of faith at home, saying goodbye to the amazing people we have crossed paths with along this journey is one of the hardest parts. To the translators, hotel staff, pastors, choir, and people who even just wondered into the eyeglass clinic; we are truly grateful for not only allowing us to serve your community, but also giving us quite the lesson on what the important things in life are. That being making Christ the ultimate centerpiece of our lives, even after we return to the craziness of America. The people of Bariadi will always hold a special place in our hearts, as they taught us just how strong our love for Jesus can really be.

Day 4, 5, and 6- Clinic and Evangalism

The last few days have been spotty with internet connection but each of those days have been unexplainabley amazing. We have continued to start off each day by going to the church to work in the clinic. We have been very surprised at the number of  people we have been able to serve. However, many of the people have vision impairing diseases like cataracts and pterygium which eventually leads to blindness. It is very hard for us to see signs of these illnesses in children as young as 8. We have given out 1 cane for a blind man. His words were: “it feels I’m a child learning to walk again.” Truly indescribable. Over the first three days of clinic, we have seen over 400 people in need of vision corrections. Monday and afternoon we got the opportunity to travel about 15 minutes outside of the Bariadi community and share the world of God with people who seemed to need it most of all. The children wore dirt covered rags and some wore none at all. The houses were far and in between but th

A group of orphan children hanging around outside of church joined us in fun with bubbles. Amazing singing and dancing at worship this morning. Beautiful people.

Day 3- Church and Clinic Setup

After 2 and a half days of travel, we have finally slept and showered and started our stay here with a 10 o’clock church service. The community’s enthusiasm for the gospel was overwhelming and the songs and voices of the people were absolutely beautiful. After today’s service, we have come to realize that we have many things to learn from these amazing people. Next, in preparation for the clinic tomorrow, we took our materials back to the church and set up the eye testing stations. In the process, we made a few new friends and got the opportunity to distribute and teach about our witness bracelets, as well as have some fun with bubbles. The smiles and laughs that were shared among us all today, are all just reminders of God’s love working through us. Photos coming soon... :)
